Badrinath is located at an altitude of 3300 meters (10,827 feet) above sea level in the lap of the Garhwal Himalaya in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. As per the holy scriptures, it is believed that this is the same place where lord vishnu had meditated for ages, and Maa Laxmi protected him from adverse climatic conditions by taking the form of a Badri (berry) tree, and hence this place got its name as Badrinath.
